Jellyfin for Android connects your phone or tablet to a personal media library running on a Jellyfin server. Instead of choosing from a commercial streaming catalogue, you browse the films, television episodes, music and other media that you have organised on your own server. The Android app is the official companion to the free, open-source Jellyfin project.

Stream your own collection

The app brings your server library into a mobile interface, making it practical to pick a film from the sofa or listen to an album without copying the entire collection onto your phone. A working Jellyfin server is required before you can start: the app does not supply movies, subscriptions or a ready-made channel package. Your server, network connection and the media you have added determine what is available.

More ways to watch and listen

Beyond playing media on an Android device, Jellyfin supports streaming to a Chromecast on the same network. It can also provide access to live television and recorded programmes when the server has the necessary tuner hardware or supporting services. Music listening through Android Auto is available online, giving an existing home library another useful listening option.

Getting started

Install the official app from Google Play, open it and connect to the address of your Jellyfin server. Sign in with the account created on that server, then browse the libraries you are allowed to access. For use away from home, the server must be reachable through a correctly configured connection. Jellyfin is a good match for people who want to manage their own collection and are comfortable setting up a media server. Check the current Google Play listing for device compatibility and release details before installing.
